Unsung Heroes: Remembering Our Great War Nursing Sisters

Images from our recent remembrance service.

During the First World War, over 3,000 Canadian women served as Nursing Sisters overseas. Nearly 30 of these extraordinary and heroic young women called the Kawartha Lakes area home, but their stories have faded into the mists of history.

We remembered these “Angels of Mercy” through an ecumenical service of dramatic readings, poetry, music, and meditation. A reception featuring wartime-inspired goodies will follow in St. Paul’s parish hall.  Co Hosted with the Olde Gaol Museum – Victoria County Historical Society.

Our Four Entertainers

These four lovely gentlemen were presented with the Canada 150 award a few weeks ago at the legion by Jamie Schmale MP.

(left to right):
George Morris, Garnet Powell, Bill Witham, Robert Sisson.

Robert retired about 2 years ago, but the others still go and entertain at the nursing homes.

Congratulations to you all, it is well deserved.
