David Golding

David was born in 1949 in the Channel Island of Guernsey that is out in the Atlantic Ocean 18-miles off the west coast of France, and 90 miles from the south coast of England. He went to boys Grammar school, then on to a Polytechnic College in Portsmouth, England, first getting a higher National diploma in CIV ENG. He worked for a couple of years then went back to school to take CIV ENG DEGREE. He says his career has always been as a Construction Superintendent. He is a P.ENG who worked in Saudi Arabia for a year before immigrating to Canada in 1978. He married Pat on April 29th of that same year. They have three boys Jason, Devon and Ryan.

He says he became a dedicated Christian when his first son was baptized, and the Lord has kept him involved ever since. He was confirmed with his ‘ Youth Group’ at Sunderland when he was 41-years young, and did his Cursillo in 1991.

He was Warden of St. Mary’s Church, Sunderland for 10 years and a licensed lay reader for 7-years. He belongs to two choirs – the Kawartha Male chorus for 17-years and St. Paul’s Choir (he is now in his 5th year).

He likes gardening and building things, swimming (used to sail and surf) and loves anything science fiction. He even enjoys horrors and thrillers.

He says, ” I love God and know he has kept me going, drawing me closer all the time. I can see what he has done for me through my life, when in the past I had no idea. I’ve learned to trust and lean on Him.”

He says he needed a break from his responsibility after the struggles of Brock Parish. So after a few years at St. Paul’s, he started the Men’s Breakfast Group.

He says, “I am a person who will accept change, not substitution – in our worship and our outreach. I support 100% anything we can do to bring youth into our community of Faith. We may even have to have an extra service or three? Have modern instruments; yes guitars, keyboards, drums, and flutes. If you can go for that then let it be known! St Paul’s is a great Church because of its people. But there is always room to become FANTASTIC!!!!!”

St. Paul’s is enriched by the presence of David and delighted by his leadership.
